Why Should You Clean Your Gutters Regularly?
Gutters and downspouts are essential for draining water away from a property. Decomposing leaves, twigs, and other debris can create blockages in the gutter system, forcing water over the side of the gutter, causing damage to foundation plantings and the foundation itself. Unclean gutters can lead to many complex and costly problems. And we don’t want that, do we? A visual inspection of your gutters during the fall (before it starts raining) is a great place to start. If you’re not sure what to look for or aren’t comfortable up on a ladder, a professional inspection by Roofing Masters Anchorage can help.

Clogged and damaged gutters can:
- Cause water damage to your sidings;
- Flood the areas directly underneath your roof;
- Damage your roof and leak into your home;
- Become a breeding ground for all sorts of things;
- Water seepage from clogged guttering can lead to mold.

Many experts recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year– once in the late spring and once in the late summer or early fall. Unless you have pine trees above your house, then we recommend doing it 3-4 times. Also, if you are experiencing a dry and hot summer you will accumulate dry leaves, small branches and birds nests in your gutters especially if you have a number of trees around your property. It is a good idea to make a habit of checking the gutters whenever it rains somewhat heavily. You just do a visual inspection after a severe storm which blew substantial leaves, twigs, and other objects onto your roof.
You should make sure that your downspouts aren’t clogged either since they are just as necessary for carrying water away from your house’s foundation. Along with the downspouts and extensions, the gutter system ensures the proper flow of water off the roof and away from the home’s foundation. Downspouts can be blocked by different debris, sticks, pine needles, bird nests. As you know they accumulate over time and clog the gutter lines of our building. That is why we should clean at least twice a year the gutters and downspouts of our property.
